The Story
TABRIZ, PERSIA, AD1290:
In Mongol Persia, two men are trying
to forge an alliance:
Giovanni, the papal envoy -
and Arghun, feared descendant of
Genghis Khan.
And one woman is torn between them - -
A mission for Pope Nicholas IV precipitates Venetian nobleman Giovanni di Montecervino into adventure and romance at the Mongol court.
Arghun, great-great-grandson of Genghis Khan, is dying. But some would hasten his death for political reasons, and others would sacrifice his wife Nadia for personal ones.
Nadia, beautiful and talented, victim of a barbaric Mongol marriage law, desires only to protect her son Hassan until he reaches manhood. Torn between her duty as a wife and a love that defies the hatred of the age, she must discover the identity of her secret enemy before it is too late.
And must Giovanni compromise his faith to save the Muslim woman he loves?
